A mouthy and feisty taxicab driver has hot tips for a green and inept cop set on solving a string of New York City bank robberies committed by a quartet of female Brazilian bank robbers. Belle Williams is a speed demon. Flying through the streets of New York in her tricked-out taxi, she's earned a rep as New York's fastest cabbie. But driving a hack is only a pit stop for her real dream: Belle wants to be a race car champion. And she's well on her way–until she's derailed by overeager cop Andy Washburn, whose undercover skills are matched only by his total ineptitude behind the wheel. Washburn, whose lack of vehicular skills has landed him in the precinct doghouse, is hot on the heels of a gang of beautiful Brazilian bank robbers, led by Vanessa, their cold, calculating–and leggy–leader. To nab the evasive crooks, drivers license-less Washburn convinces Belle to team up with him to pursue Vanessa and crew. Belle has carte blanche to drive at any speed and break any law. The car-less cop and speed-demon cabbie–New York's unlikeliest partners– begin a high-speed game of cat and mouse with the robbers. That is, if Belle and Washburn don't end up killing each other first. Taxi is an almost miss. The problem I had with the film is that there isn't that much there. It's one of those movies where they show bloopers in the end to show how much fun the actors had. Sure they had fun, but did we? Not quite.<br/><br/>Jimmy Fallon plays a cop who can't drive, and Queen Latifa plays a taxi driver who loves speed(Ha, isn't that funny). The two of them team up to stop a group of female Portogeuse bank robbers led by Giselle Bundchin. The chick may be hot, but she can't exactly act. What did we expect though she is a model all they wanted was eye candy.<br/><br/>The highlight of the film is Jennifer Esposito from Spin city and Crash as Jimmy Fallon's boss and ex girlfriend. Not that her performance is worth Oscars, it's just that her character doesn't seem so fake. She's not exactly meant to be funny though. Queen Latifa and Jimmy Fallon are meant to be funny, they are extremely likable people. But the film Taxi falls flat.<br/><br/>I hate to use the term I am about to use. But Taxi has cheap gags, quite a few of them actually. I left out Ann Margerate, the great, who plays Jimmy Fallon's mom. Though she is barely in it, she is likable. Every person in this film is likable, it just seems like this movie is a skit that just keeps going. The Movie didn't feel real to me. What did I expect it's a somewhat remake of Taxi. Now to end my review, let me say one more thing. Thumbs down.<br/><br/>Taxi:**/**** I saw the flick. I didn't pay much to see it. I liked it. If I had paid full ticket price I probably would've been disappointed. But I didn't, so I wasn't. It was fun. It was reasonably clean. It was a nice movie. I gave it 7/10.<br/><br/>I will likely seek out the original material because tout le monde seems to think that it's far superior. By hey, this was based on stuff written by the dude responsible for "The Fifth Element" (Luc Besson), so it can't be that bad.<br/><br/>It's not a stellar movie. But let's face it, not every movie is a "Die Hard". But at the same time, not every movie is "Gigli" either. "Gigli" blew chunks. Compared to "Gigli", this movie is Best Picture worthy. Compared to "Gigli", this movie is a masterpiece.<br/><br/>Try it on the cheap side! This witless action comedy begins to insult the audience's intelligence from the opening scene.
